What is a routing number? 

A routing number is a unique 9-digit code assigned to U.S. financial institutions to process transactions like wire transfers, direct deposits, and more.  

Where do I find my routing number? 

If you own checks, you can look at the bottom left corner of your paper check to find your routing number; it is the first 9-digital sequence, followed by your account number. You may also find the routing number through online or mobile banking or bank statements. 

What will I need my routing number for?  

Your routing number is the 9-digit code that acts as a digital address for your bank. Most of the time, especially when you’re completing a transaction, you may be asked for your routing number. Other common situations you may need your routing number for include: 

• Direct deposits: Setting up your paycheck with your employer 
• Bill pay: Scheduling automatic drafts for rent, utilities, or credit card 
• Electronic transfers: Moving money between accounts you own
